Hagia Sophia Mosque and Museum

It was built during the reign of Manuel Komnenos I (1238 – 1263), one of the kings of the Trabzon Empire. After the conquest of Trabzon by Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the building was converted into a mosque. Hagia Sophia has attracted the attention of travelers and researchers who have visited the city for centuries. It is known that the mosque, which was destroyed in 1868, was repaired from the beginning with the encouragement of Bursalı Rıza Efendi. During the First World War, it was used as a warehouse, and later as a hospital and later as a mosque. It was restored between 1958 and 1962 with the cooperation of the General Directorate of Foundations and Edinburgh University and was opened to visitors as a museum after 1964. Part of the museum was reopened to Muslims after 49 years in 2013.

Atatürk's Mansion

The mansion was built as a summer residence by Konstantin Kabayanidis on the Soguksu Ridge, which ruled Trabzon in the early 19th century. Large and flamboyant European symbols were used in the building, which has the effects of European and Western Renaissance architecture. However, stone workmanship was used on the exterior of the mansion, and its garden is surrounded by pine trees. Stairs with bricks on the interior are wooden and railing. Tiles are used on the floors and the ceilings are decorated in an empirical way. The water and heat installation was furnished with the advanced technology of the time. Ataturk’s Mansion is a historical place visited by the majority of visitors to Trabzon.
